Michelot

Michelot

Domaine Michelot is one of the largest domaines in Mersault, with 23 hectares of vines. Now run by Jean-François Mestre in succession to his father-in-law Bernard Michelot who was definitely one of the personalities of Meursault despite his diminutive size. He was one of the first to bottle various lieux-dits separately, notably Clos du Cromin and Clos St Felix. The domaine also has premiers crus Charmes, Genevrières, Perrières and Poruzots. There is virtually a ‘Quartier Michelot’ represented by a number of prosperous looking houses on the side road out towards Puligny-Montrachet. Immediately over the way can be found another branch of the family, Domaine Michelot Mère et Fille, though this has recently changed its name to Domaine Bernard-Bonin. These are benchmark Meursaults with fine, buttery notes and nuances of ripe, sun-drenched fruits, nuts and toasted bread. In the last couple of years these wines have become tighter, more complex and more refined. The village wines are approachable when young, whilst the Premiers Crus amply reward cellaring.
