Description

Made from a field blend vineyard at Quinta do Vesuvio that is almost 100 years old, this is very dark in the glass, practically opaque. Delicious notes of rich, dark fruit on the nose are tempered and given structure by a certain granitic minerality. Amazingly intense dark fruit on the palate is kept in check by great, crisp acidity and very fine tannins, not yet knit, but time is very much on this wine’s side. +.

Quinta do Vesuvio

As a general rule, the further one travels up the Douro, the better the quality and concentration found in the fruit, though as a result of the drier conditions, the quantities are greatly reduced. The Symington Group took the plunge in 1989 and purchased Quinta do Vesuvio, which despite its remoteness, has to be the grandest quinta, with about 400 hectares of which about 100 are covered with the finest vines.
