Membership levels

What are the five membership levels?

Member and Cellar Club form the foundation. Green, Gold and Black make up House of 1698, where the relationship becomes increasingly personal and proactive.

How is my membership level decided?

You receive the highest Level reached through any one qualifying route: qualifying annual contribution, the qualifying value of wine and spirits held in your cellar with us or an active monthly commitment.

What are the thresholds?

Member begins at £0, it is for anyone opening an account. Cellar Club begins at £3,000 annual contribution, £3,000 qualifying cellar value or a £250 monthly commitment. Green begins at £10,000, £50,000 or £800 per month. Gold begins at £40,000, £150,000 or £3,300 per month. Black begins at £100,000, £1,000,000 or £8,300 per month.

Which period is used for annual contribution?

The contribution assessment is based on calendar years, not a rolling 12-month period. At launch, both January to December 2025 contribution and January 2026 to year-to-date contribution are considered. This means you may qualify through the previous calendar year even where current-year activity has not yet reached the relevant threshold.

What counts towards annual contribution?

Invoiced customer transactions recorded as spend, including storage fees, VAT and Duty. We also recognise 25% of the sale value through BBX or Sell to BB&R and 100% of the auction hammer value.

Can I move up or down?

You can move up during the year once you meet a threshold, after the next overnight calculation. A Level earned through contribution or cellar value is held until the annual review. A monthly commitment ending or reducing may lead to a change in membership level. The first review is intended for 1st January 2028.

Why has my dashboard not updated immediately?

The calculation runs overnight, not in real time. A purchase today should not be expected to create an immediate same-day change.

What should I do if I think my Membership Level is wrong?

Please ask us to check it. We will review qualifying activity, your cellar value and any monthly commitment. If the data is wrong, we will arrange for it to be corrected.
